SCAM: YOU WON 300 000 PESOS AND HONDA CR-V

I received this message on my phone through SMS:

“CONGRATULATIONS! Ur cel # WON Php300, 000 & 1 HONDA CR-V last 02/18/10. For inquiries call this #. This is Ed Pascua, of Phil.Info.Center. Permit #0292 series 2010.”

My question then is: How come that he can give Php300, 000 pesos plus a Honda CR-V and yet he cannot even call me and instead requested me to call him for inquiries? And BTW, I can’t remember any raffle draw I joined in the past 12 months.

This is just one typical example that spreads through mobile text messages. Most people though are aware of these scams and quickly reject it. But there are still people who are victimized by these obvious traps. Some even give money to retrieve the promised prizes. Be careful, when it is too good to be true, it’s probably not true.

  18. Guys, i received also text message that i won a toyota avanza. Good thing, i was able to received, too, a warning from NTC (as it appeared on my inbox, definitely not a scam). They are encouraging citizens to call 9213251 or 9267722 to report these scams. I did it and was required to email my formal report at ospac@ntc.gov.ph indicating (1) the text message you received (2) the number of the sender of the message.

We can browse the net, watch youtube and do anything on facebook for several hours. Sending email to NTC i think is no difficult task as a citizen of this country. AKO ANG SIMULA =))

  25. Hey guys! I just received a message from this number 09265112312 stating that Congratulations!!! Your # won Toyota Hilux G. w/ 300 thou via electronic raffle last Dec. 14, 2012. For details, please call Miguel Ang of Philippine Information Center on this #. So I called the #, the one who answered my call was Sandra Soriano, according to her she was the secretary of the Chairman of Philippine Information Center. She told me to call Mr. Angelo Basa the Chairman of Beneton International located in Olonggapo. So I called the number of this Angelo Basa. When I talked to him, I told him how come I won a prize and I don't even join a raffle. He said your mobile number was selected. And he said this is lapse already, the draw was last Dec. 12, 2012 and why only now u called. I told him I just received the message. Then he told me to call back in 10 minutes. Not even 10 minutes later, he sent a text message telling me to call. I realized that it was a scam, I responded with his message, and I said why you don't have a load to call me? People out there, beware of this type of bs scam.

  26. Yes, all of you are right...there are still people who believe in this scam...I am one of them...First they ask me an amount to pay for the comprehensive insurance of the vehicle, btw according to them I won Toyota Hillux. So in order for them to deliver it to me, it needs to travel because it will be coming from Cebu. They let me choose the type of insurance, of course I choose the lowest. After I sent the amount, 7,700. They called again telling me that LTO is requiring a complete comprehensive insurance for a luxury vehicle. Then ask me to add 8200 more. Now the next day, it will be shipped to Manila already however they called again telling me that we need to put the vehicle in a container van because Sulpicio Lines won't allow luxury vehicle not in a container van. They ask me to send 15,200...and therefore I sent 15,200. They said the shipment will arrive at Pier 12 at 2-3 pm the next day. They will text me once they arrive. Now on the next day, to my surprise they said that he's in subic because the ship stopped over there and for us to send the vehicle to manila is through a mover. Again they ask me to send them 5,000 more for the mover. Of course as I have said I am one of their victims. To the last 5000 I still sent. Maybe many of you will call me "tanga" or fool as it is really the right term for me...Hopefully there will be no more victims like me and let this serve as a warning that they would always let it seem real so that you'll be hooked. For the scammers I pity them...Hopefully they change.

  29. GOOD ONE!

notes: 1. there is no P.I.O. office.

    2. only network operators will do a random mobile number
draw.and will use special numbers, most of the time 4
digit(**** pepsi:2929, BIR:9777, ETC) when sending
    information or instruction/s.

    3. in most cases, contestants/consumers are required to
register by filling up a raffle coupon or via SMS
(like papsi's: Hataw araw-araw-daily car draw and
BIR's Premyo sa Resibo), to be sent to special
    numbers(as stated above).

    4. Prizes, be it cash or goods(like Vehicle/s), may be
taxable! Other than that, a winner is no longer required
to pay for anything(maybe the car registration). Winner
is NOT required make bank deposit to ensure his/her
    prize.

    5. As stated by the author/writer/blogger: If it's TOO GOOD
to be true, IT IS NOT TRUE!

    6. Don't expect a vehicle+cash to be delivered right at
your doorstep! If you wanna win that Lotto Jackpot, you
would have to pay for your ticket. Cars to be given
away by your favorite shopping mall? You would need to
shed at least the minimum purchase requirement.
On promotions and raffles,LUCK doesn't come for free!
the INITIAL expense comes BEFORE YOU WIN, you don't get
to win without joining, and you don't get to win without
spending/buying. after winning, comes the second wave of
expense... on car/s or house/s, it's probably tax.
on cash prizes, it's the pakain ka/balato naman diyan!

  32. I got this text message from 09179359613 at 9:48 am on December 4, 2013: "CONGRATULATIONS!!! Your # WON 1 UNIT NEW TOYOTA VIOS W/350Thou Via Electronic Raffle Promo. Last 09/27/13 For More Details. Please Call Now. Evangeline Maglaya of Phil..Info..Center in This #"
When I called 09179359613, Evangeline Maglaya referred me to Recaro Company International at 0917-936-8847 and look for Mr. Tony Santos Rivera.
To satisfy myself as to the truthfulness of this matter, I called 0917-936-8847 and Mr. Tony Santos Rivera received my call and asked me why I called only now when the raffle was last September. Then he informed me that my phone number shall be verified and wait for 15 minutes before calling back.

    My Observations:
    1. If they are legitimate employees of those companies mentioned, they should be using landline numbers, not private cellular phone numbers;
    2. If they are legitimate employees of those companies mentioned, they should be speaking in a lively and well modulated voice. Are these companies hiring employees whose English speaking skills seemed to have not passed the speech laboratory test;
    3. If they are legitimate employees of those companies mentiond, they should be the one calling me if the matter is of truthful intention.

    Conclusion:
    They are fake.

  35. Actually, I have just received the same message today, asking me to immediately call Robert Chan for raffle confirmation. I phoned the sender then since my mobile can call the number free of charge and looked for Mr. Chan. Someone, who introduced herself as Clarissa Montero of Philippine Information Center, immediately answered (in a non-professional accent) that she is Mr. Chan's secretary. This alleged secretary advised me to call Ernesto Davide @ 0946-5140644. I asked her who's Mr. Davide and she said, Chairman of Calvin Klien. Accordingly, CK in cooperation of PIC had electronic raffle draw sometime in October of this year and my number was luckily picked as the winner of Toyota Hi-Lux and Php 300,000. At first, I felt really lucky but of course I am already aware with this kind of "modus operandi". I searched then who's currently CK's Chairman and it's not Ernesto Davide. I also searched for "scam" until I see this site. To all, PLEASE BEWARE!

4 Steps to Replace Stolen or Lost Passbook

My passbook (inside my bag) was recently stolen inside a local grocery store, and I would like to share the steps I took to secure my account and get a new passbook.      By User:Aerous ", CC BY-SA 3.0 , Link The steps outlined here are for a BPI savings account, but generally, the procedure will be very similar to other banks in the Philippines. 1. Call the Bank to Secure Your Account The first and most crucial step you need to do immediately is to contact your bank by phone or personally report it to the branch where you opened the account. This action will ensure that funds will stay put. The bank will lock the account immediately. The big banks have 24/7 hotlines. For BPI, it's 889-100. You have to do this step ASAP after discovering the loss. 2. Go to the Branch to Ask for a Replacement of the Passbook It can mean a simple replacement of the lost passbook, but it can also mean closing the entire account and opening a new one for security purposes. 3. Get an Affidav

Resigning? SSS Will Deduct Your Loan Balance from Your Last Pay

The purpose of this article is to inform the public about this policy of the Social Security System (SSS), the government-owned insurance company for those employed in the private sector. I just learned about this a few months ago when my company announced a workforce reduction program. Among the sad discussions is about this policy of SSS regarding loans in cases of resignation or retrenchment. Section G-2 of the SSS Loan Terms and Conditions (at the back of the loan application form) explicitly says the following: "The employer shall deduct the total balance of the loan from any benefit/s due to the employee and shall remit the same in full to SSS, in case the member-borrower is separated voluntarily (e.g., retirement or resignation) or involuntarily (e.g., termination of employment or cessation of operations of the company)." In other words, y ou will be required to pay the rest of your loan (including the interest) when you change employer or employment statu

How Much Does a MRI Scan Costs in the Philippines?

My dad needs a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan for his prostate problem. I did a little research on how much does it cost to have one. Well, it depends on many factors, such as which body part is to be scanned. There's also this technique called "MRI with contrast," wherein the patient will be injected with a chemical to make the scan clearer.
