Palace Approves LRT and MRT Fare Increase

Just a few days after the approval of Fare increase for Taxis, another fare hike is about to happen. Malacanang has finally approved the proposal to increase the fare for Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT).

There's no official date yet as to the implementation of this fare hike and the exact amount of increase is yet to be determined as well. All these details will be discussed in the meeting of the LRTA Board on January 11. With that, we can expect the implementation to be as early as second or third week of January 2011.

Also, because of the increase in Toll Fees in the South Luzon Express Way (SLEX), the South Luzon Bus Operators Association (SOLUBOA)   filed a petition to increase Bus fare by 0.50 pesos per kilometer. Although this petition is yet to be heard and studied by LTFRB, it is safe to assume that this might happen early this year.

So, Philippine Commuters, Are you ready for this? Bring your pencils up and start mending your budgets! :-)
