Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is one of the largest banks in the Philippines today and the oldest with over 100 years since its establishment in 1851. Today, BPI has been one of the trusted banks in the country as it has shown itself resilient in the many economic crisis that befell the Philippines.
So if you're planning to have your first ever bank account, definitely, BPI is highly recommended. Here is the step-by-step procedure on how to apply for a BPI account. For those who are not aware, Bank of the Philippine Islands has two other subsidiary banks-BPI Family savings bank, and BPI Direct Savings Bank.
Additional Info: I asked a BPI personnel abut the difference between the three BPI banks and she answered me these:
BPI Bank is focused primarily on corporate accounts.
BPI Family Savings Bank focuses on individual savings accounts.
BPI Direct Savings Bank is focused primarily on telephone and online banking.
The following procedure though is applicable only for both BPI and BPI Family Savngs Bank. For BPI Direct Savings bank, check this article:
For BPI accounts: 3000 pesos
For BPI Family: 1000pesos
For more information on their rates and requirements visit www.bpiexpressonline.com.

ReplyDeletedoes BPI accept School ID as part of requirements??
ReplyDeleteofcourse dear..and also authenticated birth certificate
DeleteThey may or may not. But to be sure, use a GOVERNMENT issued IDs like SSS, PRC ID, etc. See the list above.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. It was helpful. :)
ReplyDeletehow about TIN/BIR IDs? I tried to use that with BDO and they they declined my application. Would TIN card be included in "Other valid IDs issued by the Government and its instrumentalities"?
ReplyDeleteif that's the real reason why they declined your application, just use other ids like voters ID.
ReplyDeleteThey sent me an email listing the valid IDs they accept. Please see the list above. i noticed that BIR/TIN id is not included.

ReplyDeletenot in the list I received from them. But I'm not sure. You can try though.
ReplyDeleteOk. I also don't see company ID either.
ReplyDeleteno company ID also. But it depends on the company. I have tried using my company ID, and they accepted it.
ReplyDeleteNevermind. Barangay certificate, NBI and Police clearances are easy to get. :P
ReplyDeletei want to open a bpi savings for my daughter 16 yo with 1k min savings..... I want it under her name... What are the requirements for her?
ReplyDeletei think just go with her in the bank. you may be the one who would be required to submit specific requirements like billing address verification docs, IDs, etc.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any Billing Statement. Is it really required?
ReplyDeleteYes. But you can ask the bank for other "proof of address" documents.
ReplyDeletewhat if you don't have a permanent address??bcoz i want ot open an account with BPI but i don't have a permanent address since i was from the province and now i'm in the city..so how can i open an account with them?
Deletewhy is billing address important when your gonna open an account? is there some sort of fee/bill to be paid??
ReplyDelete@just to verify if you are a permanent resident of the address you declared. I don't know of other reason aside from this one.
ReplyDeletehello admin just wanna know if , what if the Meralco Bill is in a different name, like my uncle's would they accept it. Our family live in one place. Thank you

Deletei am a freelance writer and has just started working for a new boss who prefers my salary be sent via BPI account. i am planning to open BPI Direct Account and i am not sure of the specific type of deposit account i should use (under savings, right?). please help me about this. thank u.
ReplyDeletesavings is the most common type of individual account...you can use that
ReplyDeleteI am working online... can they deposit my salary directly on my BPI account? which is the best one? even if they deposit it from other country? pls help me...
ReplyDeleteam not sure about that...you can ask BPI for that...please call 89-100 (Manila) or 1800188889100 (Domestic toll free)
ReplyDeleteI just opened my account today (April 1 2011), and as of today, you only need 1 government-issued ID (I used my voter's ID) and 1 1x1 photo, then your proof of billing address. Pero 3k pesos talaga hiningi sakin, when I inquired about yung 500 muna, they said that is only for online-registered accounts.
ReplyDeletenaka indicate nmn poh sa taas n 500 ung BPI direct tama lng poh ung cnv nila senyo n for primarily on telephone and online bankings ung PBI DIRECT which is 500 and 3000 for BPI Family Savings Bank focuses on individual savings accounts ^_^
Deleteoh...i don't know that they have changed policy. When I applied two years ago, I paid only 500 pesos but I was require to make it 3000 after one month

ReplyDeletewhat if walang billing statement? kung nkikitira lang sa isang bahay
ReplyDeletepwede ba yung advantage card?
ReplyDeleteDespite all the requirements that they posted, it is still subject to discretion by the bank. They may require 2 ids and a billing statement, but may accept just one with baranggay clearance.

Deleteis there a tendency that the money left in the ATM savings accounts can be deducted?like for example from 800 becomes 500..how does it happen?
ReplyDeleteyup...if you fall below the average daily balance req'd for your account. The amount depends on the type of account you have...

Im 18...
basahin mo sir ung ibang posts. Kahit Postal ID, NBI clearance, hindi na tinatanggap na primary ID, secondary ID na lang daw... tsk I know, na-experience ko mismo e. Company ID daw or Passport would do... e kung freelancer ka nga at wala ka balak mag abroad! ang kulit! -_-

ReplyDeleteYou will need a letter from the person you're living with whose name appears on the billing statement, stating that he certifies you're living with him. Have him photocopy his ID as added documentation and state that in the letter as well.
ReplyDeleteFor IDs, driver's license and passports are best. TIN ID has been accepted too when I opened an account. Philhealth is not accepted as it does not have your photo in it.
badLy wanted to open bpi account, but unfortunately i dont have any valid id's. would you mind to give me other option for applying atm,.
