My Experience with Sun Cellular Postpaid Service

I just want to share my experience with Sun Cellular Postpaid. My main purpose is to inform others who are considering to apply for it.

The Application Process

In short, the application process falls below my expectation, but not worse, in my opinion. Here's why.

Slow Process. I applied online at their official website. Based on the list of requirements, I just have to fill out the online form, submit the competitor's latest statement, and a scan of a valid ID. I did all of that.

Later that day, I tweeted Sun Cellular asking how long it will take before I receive a feedback. They told me 3 days. The 3 days turned out to be 6 days.

Well, the application didn't end there. The email I received asked me to submit photocopies of Certificate of Employment, latest 1 month payslip and valid proof of billing. even though their website said I just have to submit a competitor's billing statement and an ID.

Next day, I applied again, this time through a nearby Sun Shop with the thought that the process will be much faster. Sadly, similar issues arose. I was asked to submit requirements they didn't mentioned the first time. Overall, from the applying online to receiving the actual unit, it took me 20 days.

Very Slow Customer Service in Sun Shop

I'm not sure if this is the case in all Sun Shops nationwide, but in the two that I went to, it was extremely slow. During application, it took me 1 hour before I was entertained. The same thing happened in the succeeding visits. Don't get me wrong, there are not that much customer. The process is just not streamlined as far as I noticed.

I may sound unfair to Sun Cellular but my expectation is based on my experience with SMART Wireless Center. The process is way faster and more streamlined.

The Deal

The deal is great. Sun Cellular offers the best deals among the three telcos. The one I applied for is probably the best among the rest. It is Plan 999 which includes the following:
- Unlimited Internet
- Free Samsung Galaxy Grand unit
- 4 hours of Sun-to-Sun Call
- Unlimited Sun-to-Sun Text Messages

Of course, each person have unique needs and circumstances, so the best deal for one may not be the same for others. But so far, Sun Cellular deals is one of the cheapest. In my case, I was able to save 200 Pesos monthly from my cellphone load and internet bills.

The Service

The service is not as good as one may wish. But comparing it with other telcos, I think Sun is either a little below or at par with SMART but above Globe (depending on location). The speed of internet varies from zero to 2 Mb/s. Based on my experience with SMART, it's quite similar. I just hope that the recent infrastructure upgrade of PLDT, the owner of both SMART and SUN, will decongest Sun Cellular's 3G load soon. I was alarmed by the fact that each day, hundreds of handsets are being activated in Sun's 3G network. Is the capacity of Sun's 3G equipment being upgraded to match that? Not sure.

The Customer Support

Overall, it was okay. I tried calling Sun's hotline (200) and it took about 15 to 20 minutes before I received an answer. Well, it is just the same with my experience in Globe and SMART. But I think the best thing in Sun Cellular is their Twitter Support. It was responsive, friendly, apologetic and helpful.

The Verdict

I guess overall, I would still recommend Sun Cellular to most of people in the country. But of course, it is up to the individual to decide based on his situation.

Also, it was just about two months since I started using Sun Postpaid service, 28 months more to go before my service contract expires. For sure, I'll still learn more about their service. I hope it will get better though.

  1. Thanks for this informative post. I'm currently handling our mobile retention program and we're considering Sun as an alternative. One of the first concerns that comes to mind is the reliability of Sun's signal nationwide, much more their internet service. Notably, their package is more appealing than the other 2 (Globe/Smart) particularly the unli data at plan 999 with a good-handset combo (e.g. Samsung Galaxy Grand).

I hope we're making the right decision on this.

4 Steps to Replace Stolen or Lost Passbook

My passbook (inside my bag) was recently stolen inside a local grocery store, and I would like to share the steps I took to secure my account and get a new passbook.      By User:Aerous ", CC BY-SA 3.0 , Link The steps outlined here are for a BPI savings account, but generally, the procedure will be very similar to other banks in the Philippines. 1. Call the Bank to Secure Your Account The first and most crucial step you need to do immediately is to contact your bank by phone or personally report it to the branch where you opened the account. This action will ensure that funds will stay put. The bank will lock the account immediately. The big banks have 24/7 hotlines. For BPI, it's 889-100. You have to do this step ASAP after discovering the loss. 2. Go to the Branch to Ask for a Replacement of the Passbook It can mean a simple replacement of the lost passbook, but it can also mean closing the entire account and opening a new one for security purposes. 3. Resigning? SSS Will Deduct Your Loan Balance from Your Last Pay

The purpose of this article is to inform the public about this policy of the Social Security System (SSS), the government-owned insurance company for those employed in the private sector. I just learned about this a few months ago when my company announced a workforce reduction program. Among the sad discussions is about this policy of SSS regarding loans in cases of resignation or retrenchment. Section G-2 of the SSS Loan Terms and Conditions (at the back of the loan application form) explicitly says the following: "The employer shall deduct the total balance of the loan from any benefit/s due to the employee and shall remit the same in full to SSS, in case the member-borrower is separated voluntarily (e.g., retirement or resignation) or involuntarily (e.g., termination of employment or cessation of operations of the company)." In other words, y ou will be required to pay the rest of your loan (including the interest) when you change employer or employment statu

How Much Does a MRI Scan Costs in the Philippines?

My dad needs a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan for his prostate problem. I did a little research on how much does it cost to have one. Well, it depends on many factors, such as which body part is to be scanned. There's also this technique called "MRI with contrast," wherein the patient will be injected with a chemical to make the scan clearer. For your information, this technique of adding contrast is known as  Gadolinium Contrast Medium . It adds cost to the procedure, but with more clarity, the more you can trust the diagnosis. MRI Machine KasugaHuang , CC BY-SA 3.0 , Link So, in my father's case, we had a  Prostate MRI,  and I assume it was without contrast since he was never injected with the "contrast" chemicals. We got it in  i-Scan Healthcare Inc.  here in Quezon City. The cost is  13000 Pesos . Please take note that the amount was just for the scan, and a separate professional will read the result. Some laboratories offer this service (i.e
